If you donât have anybody in frequent, discover their email and contact them instantly. Or pick up the cellphone and call the corporate and ask to talk to them. 9. Give the company a call, if they've HR, ask to talk to them, if they donât ask the receptionist who you need to converse to, to debate alternatives and suitability with in x department. 10. Then you need to have a sharp, attention-grabbing and knock-out profile. Here are the top 10 LinkedIn profile tips to get you started. After writing so much, your eyes tend to glaze over your paragraphs. When you reread them, your eyes and mind fill in the words you want to see, instead of the words that are actually there. To prevent yourself from doing this, write everything out first in a Word document (or your favorite editor â" the key is to have a spell checker). The built-in spell checker will alert you to any grammatical errors an d misspellings. Of course, you still need to read over your work regardless, but this will help you be extra cautious. Both Google and LinkedInâs search functions use keywords to determine who is displayed and who isnât. If your profile isnât using any keywords, then there is a good chance that searching recruiters may not find your profile.Better your chances of being found by researching industry-related keywords and using them throughout your profile. Use them in your summary as well as in your work experience. Be sure not to keyword stuff. Make sure the content reads naturally, not forced.Your profile photo should show off your professional self, which means the shot should be of just you. You donât need a full body shot, just a headshot. The background should be plain. If itâs not white, then it should be single colored. Be sure the color looks good with the color of your clothing.Speaking of clothing, keep it professional. While a suit and tie are not necessary, jeans and a t-shirt are a no-no. Choose a pair of trousers and a nice shirt or blouse. If a dress or skirt suits you, go for it.LinkedIn lets all users create individual URLs for their profiles. This makes it easier for users to share their profiles and distinguish themselves from others with similar names. A good, catchy URL is also easier for recruiters to remember.Your URL shouldnât be silly or inappropriate. Use your first and last name and your middle initial if others with your name have already claimed your preferred URL. You can also use titles like Ms., Miss, Mrs. and Mr. to help set your profile URL apart.Recommendations give your profile a great boost. When theyâre well written and honest, recommendations show an accurate portrayal of your skills and work ethic. If others enjoyed working with you, then thereâs a good chance recruiters will pay more attention to your profile. To be considered complete by LinkedInâs standards, you need three recommendations, but in realit y, the more the better. Ask anyone in your professional circle for a recommendation. If they accept, provide a brief outline of keywords you want them to include to better your search capabilities. With LinkedIn, you can join a number of online private groups that discuss relevant industries, interests and other commonalities. There are thousands of groups, and you shouldnât join every one of them. The trick is to join a few that you genuinely care about and want to be active in. LinkedIn Groups are all about sharing articles, information and opinions, so if youâre in a group just to say youâre in it, then youâre missing out on great opportunities to network.Recruiters often join these groups, and if youâre actively posting and commenting, then youâll better your chances of catching their attention. Additionally, youâll get the latest updates and breaking news about your industry.Unlike Facebook, there is no social stigma attached to having a lot of friends on LinkedIn. On Facebook, it looks like youâre trying too hard (who really knows 500 people?), but on LinkedIn, youâre not expected to know everyone youâre connected with. You connect with them so you can learn from what they post and interact with professionals whom you may never meet any other way.Donât be afraid to connect with professionals youâve never met or people youâve never spoken to. LinkedIn is a networking opportunity so feel free to grow your own circles. The more you participate, the better itâll look to recruiters.Though it can be tempting for some, lying or exaggerating aspects of your profile is a bad idea. Like lying on your resume, thereâs a good chance youâll get called out on it when in an interview.Be honest in the skills you have mastered. Donât put ones that you think make you look better, and donât try lying about certain skills. If you donât know anything about Adobe Creative Suite software, then donât list it as a skill. You may not realize it , but itâs very easy to fact check a profile, and rest assured, recruiters are doing it. If anything on your profile turns out to be a lie, youâll lose a lot of credibility, and youâll have a harder time getting a recruiter to take you seriously. When it comes down to it, Twitter is far more likely to be used on a daily basis than LinkedIn. If you want to give recruiters and idea of what youâre talking about right now, sync up your Twitter account with your LinkedIn account. Your tweets will be displayed, and recruiters can get a better feel for your voice and style.Of course, you may not want every tweet to show up on your professional LinkedIn page. Creating a Unique Real Estate Blog
Creating a Unique Real Estate Blog Tips for Creating a Unique Real Estate Blog Most real estate agents spend more time searching for leads when a simple online search can suffice. Today, most buyers look to online listings for the properties they need and few if any contact agents to find it for them. However, they do need advice on market conditions, knowledge about the neighborhood, mortgage, interest rates and open houses to finalize their decision. A real estate blog that answers pressing queries and educates sellers and buyers about their transaction can make a mark in the online sphere. Here are some tips you can use to create a unique real estate blog and engage with potential leads sooner: Create a content calendar Like a business, you need to create a strategy for your blog which your content should be based on. A content calendar will allow you to plan posts weekly, monthly or quarterly so you always have a live presence. Click To Tweet The key is to maintain consistency by posting as regularly as possible. That is the best way to make people notice old and new posts or your readership will decline. Posting 2 to 3 blogs per week should keep them interested long enough to consider you for an investment. The best benefit of a calendar is that you will be able to keep track of special events and holidays for the blog. Posts that have evergreen content that is relevant to the day they are posted generate more traffic which can translate to more leads. Focus on expertise Even though posting broad topics is a good way to flesh out a blog and attract a diverse readership, your area of expertise is more bankable in comparison. For one thing, you will be able to write research based and comprehensive content and for another, you will be able to answer comments accurately as well. Your niche allows you a unique perspective that sets you apart from other agents. This is an attractive quality for real estate investors who are in search of market-specific and accurate information about properties. Write for online readers A blog is different from an essay since it is broken up into scannable blocks of information formatted to be as reader friendly as possible. In addition, the content has an informal tone to maintain interest which makes the titles just as important. The more interesting your material is, the more readers you will attract. An unattractive blog is a wall of words which blocks readers from reading further. A good one is broken down into readable sections and each has its own subtitle. The content should also be broken down into understandable chunks or paragraphs. At most a single paragraph should not have more than 75 words to remain readable. Promote your blog No matter how great your content is, your blog wonât be able to promote itself. The best way to do that is to share your posts on social media to specific audiences on your business page on Facebook and other platforms. Sending a newsletter with exclusive posts to your contact list each month will also keep the ball rolling and keep your services at the forefront. Plus, linking the blogs to your personal email signature will make sure potential clients can contact you. In addition, do not ignore emails you receive asking for advice. In fact, you can make them a regular part of your blog to ensure readers return for answers. This way you can build credibility and solidify your reputation as an approachable and informed agent. While focusing on buyers and sellers may be tempting, you will miss out on other audiences which might generate more revenue. Therefore, make sure your blog is comprehensive enough to attract both. Georgia 36 Hour CE Renewal Package To maintain a real estate blog with fresh content regularly or to renew your license in Georgia, you need additional training and education first. The Job Seeking Mistakes We Make - Copeland Coaching
The Job Seeking Mistakes We Make Job searching is hard work. That saying getting a job is a job couldnt be truer than it is right now. I hear from job seekers every day who are struggling, and rightfully so. But, it may not be for the reasons they think. When I ask a job seeker what it is thats causing problems with their job search, they typically know the answer right away. First, theyre over qualified. They are too old. They studied the wrong thing in school. They wonder if they need to get a new haircut, go back to school, and change careers completely. A new haircut never hurt anyone. But, lets take a deeper look. The next questions I typically ask the job seeker are these: How are you applying for jobs? How many jobs have you applied to lately? Very often, I learn that the job seeker is applying online. Its the only way theyre looking for a job, and its the only way theyre applying. So, although ageism is real, its possible the company doesnt know their age because theyve never even seen the persons application. I know that companies tell job seekers, Apply online. If youre a good fit well call you. Its just not true. Sure, sometimes miracles happen. But, its not the norm. Think of it this way. If you were hiring someone, how would you go about finding that person? Would you want to sort through 200 resumes that were submitted on the internet by strangers? I bet that you would ask around. Youd ask the people that you know if they are interested, or if they know anyone who is interested. In order for applying online to work as designed, a number of things need to go smoothly. First, the online system would need to be smart enough to find the best applicants. Then, the HR recruiter would have to be knowledgeable enough about the role to select the best candidates to screen. Then, the hiring manager (the future boss) would have to trust the judgement of the HR recruiter. And, the hiring manager would have to rely on the online process to screen for candidates. This is a lot that has to go right! Instead of relying on the online process, become someone the company knows. Network with people who work at the company. Ask for coffee meetings. Talk to friends who have connections at the company. Locate the hiring manager and send them a message on LinkedIn. And, whatever you do â" apply to many jobs. The likelihood that youll get hired after you apply for a job is less than five percent. Applying to only five or ten jobs is not likely to result in a job offer. Before you decide why you arent being selected, be sure that you arent completely relying on the online process, and that youre applying to many jobs at the same time. I hope these tips have helped you. Visit CopelandCoaching.com to find more tips to improve your job search. If I can be of assistance to you, donât hesitate to reach out to me here. Money Talks with Renewable Energy
Cash Talks with Renewable Energy Cash Talks with Renewable Energy Cash Talks with Renewable Energy Discussing the climate has never been increasingly disputable. Environmental change has become the hot catch issue within recent memory on the two sides of the passageway, with government officials contending energetically both in help, and in restriction, to measures that would address the bit by bit warming temperatures that were seeing around the world. Simultaneously, world pioneers are contending over what steps, assuming any, to take, what understandings to concentrate on, what sustainable power sources to help, and what to do today about something that may take numerous ages yet to play out. Whatever occurs in Washington, sustainable power source has shown up in corporate America in a major way, with 63 percent of Fortune 100 organizations and almost 50% of the Fortune 500 having set in any event one clean vitality focus on this year, as indicated by another investigation supported by the World Wildlife Fund. This incorporates endeavors by enterprises to diminish their ozone harming substance discharges, increment vitality productivity at their offices and convert their frameworks to depend more on inexhaustible wellsprings of vitality. What's more, this has occurred as the aftereffect of sustainable power source suppliers and supporters communicating in a language that resounds all around in C-suites and meeting rooms around the world: Cost. The story is that the expense of building new sun powered and wind frameworks, specifically, has descended sixty, seventy, 80% in the last six or seven years, says natural specialist Andrew Winston, the creator of The Big Pivot: Radically Practical Strategies for a Hotter, Scarcer and More Open World. What's more, its not difficult to jump from that point to, Hey, [renewable energy] is presently less expensive. This is something that we as an organization can do. Projections of world vitality utilization by fuel. Source: U.S. DOE Much of the time, as per Winston, sustainable power source has essentially become unreasonably modest for enterprises to overlook. You take a gander at the huge tech organizations, the large retailers, he says. Apples at a 100% inexhaustible at this point. Walmart purchases a ton. The military purchases a ton. Google purchases gigawatts at once. It doesnt mean at a given second that theyre off the matrix, however generally it implies that on a bright day the vitality theyve purchased is far more than they need that day. On a stormy day or an overcast day its less, so over the year theyve purchased the same number of inexhaustible kilowatt hours as they use. New Tools Thus, another universe of vitality following and effectiveness devices have jumped up to assist partnerships with taking advantage of these new chances. Bractlet, for example, is a startup situated in Austin, TX, that has built up a lot of building vitality investigation apparatuses intended to help office proprietors and corporate directors decrease their vitality costs by following and recognizing both squandered vitality just as productivity openings. The enormous thing that were seeing is organizations and building proprietors settling on choices about their facilitieswhether its choosing to resign a warming framework, or supplanting air taking care of units, or updating building computerization systemsbecause they need to, not on the grounds that they need to, says Alec Manfre, Braclets CEO and prime supporter. These various things that theyre spending capital on that they trust are going to restore some cash for them. In any case, when theyre settling on these choices, frequently they are basing them off of really constrained, obsolete data. Bractlets arrangement is to consolidate a clothing rundown of sensor-based information focuses into building maps that make it simple for business pioneers to envision and depict the potential cost reserve funds related with every conceivable proficiency overhaul. Simply taking the capital that is as of now assigned to a companys structures and offices financial plan and figuring out where in the portfolio that capital can be dispensed all the more proficiently can have a major effect, Manfre says, cutting vitality spend by 10 to 25 percent on normal just by reprograming existing frameworks and improving existing gear. At that point, when youre taking a gander at the portfolio side, you at that point can deliberately say, All right, I have $30 million to put resources into my structures; where would it be a good idea for me to spend it? I may have a ton of quick recompense openings that would yield extraordinary vitality reserve funds, so perhaps I take a portion of that investment funds and help counterbalance capital expenses at another structure that may require a great deal of work yet won't have as great a restitution. Organizations would now be able to begin assigning money in an astute manner to amplify returns, yet in addition boost vitality proficiency over their properties. Choices Rule the Day A few organizations are in any event, beginning to look past the framework when think about their vitality consumptions, in view of the manner in which the vitality advertise has experienced childhood in this nation throughout the only remaining century or something like that. In all actuality, vitality planning boils down to two choicesa client either possesses their own creation framework (for example sunlight based boards, wind turbines, and so forth.) or they buy their vitality on the framework from an outsider that makes the force and afterward conveys it to them as it was done in the good 'ol days. It makes sense, at that point, that any vitality bought from an outsider will be more costly than any that is created in house by a companys own vitality delivering resource because of fundamental financial aspects. Today this implies clients have more options than any other time in recent memory while assigning their vitality dollars, on the grounds that creating their own has gotten so modest. What was once cost restrictive for everything except the best promoted organizations is currently well close enough for nearly everybody, and that is changing the math behind sustainable power source. As per Noah Kirsch, executive of money at Wunder Capital, a firm situated in Boulder, CO, that is devoted to financing sunlight based influence establishments utilizing a tech-based endorsing framework to recognize the best speculations, the expense of a sun oriented board establishment has fallen by significant degrees since the innovation initially went standard during the 1970s. Today it is far simpler for enterprises and other huge vitality clients to legitimize the venture. On a very basic level the financial matters is driving these chances, he says. The deals that were witnessing are being driven by fundamentally individuals going in and saying, Do you need to set aside cash? Were not seeing deals being driven by, Hey, would you like to accomplish something useful for the Earth? That is something that may come in to play yet its truly not a concentrate at this moment. What's more, with regards to corporate account, that is sufficient to drive a significant move in sustainable power source use. Tim Sprinkle is an autonomous author. For Further Discussion The story is that the expense of building new sun powered and wind frameworks, specifically, has descended sixty, seventy, 80% in the last six or seven years. Boost your confidence up to re-enter the workforce! - Hallie Crawford
Lift your certainty up to reappear the workforce! I was respected to be cited in this article as of late about coming back to the workforce and the run of the mill difficulties individuals face doing as such, Goldman Wants You Even If You've Been Unemployed Five Years. As I notice in the article, I find that absence of certainty is normally the greatest impediment individuals face in returning the workforce. We as a whole rebate our regular gifts partly. I do this constantly. My mother needs to remind me and she cites me now and then. I ask her who said that, and she says she got it from me! I rebate my capacity to make associations between profession thoughts that others wouldnt. To hear what a vocation training customer isnt saying or fears, or to assist them with distinguishing whats generally critical to them, for instance. At the point when we accomplish something that comes so normally to us, we regularly expect either 1) it isnt a genuine ability or 2) others are as acceptable at it as we are on the grounds that it comes so effectively to us. When youve left the workforce, this turns out to be more awful in light of the fact that you either havent utilized those abilities or aptitudes by any stretch of the imagination. Or on the other hand on the off chance that you have it probably won't be in a customary work setting so you neglect them since you think they dont check. You have to acknowledge they DO tally. Possibly your aptitudes are corroded, yet on the off chance that theyre something that falls into place without any issues for you, theyre not gone. Maybe you have to take a re-fresher course in introduction abilities, Microsoft Excel or other programming. Be that as it may, its like riding a bicycle, if youve done it once, you can do it once more. You likewise need to understand that returning can be an opportunity for you to re-concoct yourself too. This may be your chance to go into another field or utilize your abilities in another manner. So think emphatically, and make sense of how this can be an open door as opposed to a deterrent. In the event that you'd like more assistance with coming back to the workforce, get in touch with us today for a complimentary conference. Quest for new employment Coach P.S. 5 Life Lessons Only an Idiot Needs a Month Off to Learn
5 Life Lessons Only an Idiot Needs a Month Off to Learn Delicate Reader, You may have heard that I as of late took a month off. While you didnt see a drop in my articles here on Recruiter.com (in light of a store of drafts and the persevering Red Branch Media group), my holiday was chronicled in Forbes (ahem) and I expounded a piece on it on Marenated, my home on the Interwebz. I got a great deal of inquiries regarding my downtime from associates, family and even individuals I met on an extended get-away. While I took in a ton from my get-away and resulting plunge once again into running my advanced organization, I sorta think a great many people dont need that much time to understand the things that are currently agonizingly evident to me. 1) Keep your companions close and disregard your foes. Being occupied caused me to blow up the last with significance and disregard the previous. Discussion about odd needs! Work and business are significant yet not as significant as individuals who care about you. It very well may be anything but difficult to overlook this in a profoundly serious industry. Dont. In this way, I chose to save Fridays for calls and messages and cards to companions and associates. Obviously, I cannot spend the entire doing that, however in the event that I bust my mound the remainder of the week to guarantee that my Fridays are free for associating, advancing and conceptualizing with wonderful individuals then I know my organization (and my life, duh) will profit. 2) Inspiration is limited. Thinking of inventive plans, crusades, duplicate and substance for each new customer that strolls through RBMs virtual entryways aint simple individuals! Since motivation is limited, you have to jump on it when it appears and contend energetically for thoughts you trust in. Loads of individuals in business need to avoid any and all risks, however in the event that you care about the work youre doing, youll push them only somewhat harder. Along these lines, Iam going for morning time to stroll and blog. There is just such a great amount of time before the group arrives to work, so in the event that I make myself run for 30 minutes and compose for 30 minutes, the motivation might conceivably fire appearing around at that point. I am pushing calls with customers to the evening to assault issues when Im freshestâ"the A.M. 3) Hard work isnt limited. At the point when you find that your dream has abandoned you (see #2), realize that difficult work never will. When youre not roused, take care of the tabs or answer messages; tidy up databases or whatever different thoughtless stunt you have to finish, in light of the fact that in spite of being exhausting, that stuff needs to complete. Also, nobody at any point got anyplace by maintaining a strategic distance from the dreadful stuff. Aside from Tim Ferris, that folks stunning. In this way, Iam noting messages in clumps, composing at a predetermined time and building administrator time into my day. Difficult work (in the case of doing the clothing or your duties) appears to shaft a wide range of inventive thoughts into my head. 4) You are not the focal point of the universe. Insane right? I took in this, not at my moms knee like a typical individual, however when I left my business in the hands of my VERY fit group and chose to unplug. Presently, I was all the while posting on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, yet I wasnt truly understanding messages or keeping an eye on solicitations. Truth be told, when colleagues messaged me about genuine issues and I just.didnt care. They made sense of it. I may have worked myself out of a vocation. Along these lines, Iam relaxing. I used to guarantee customers the speediest turnaround I could marshal, just to have them state take as much time as necessary! Presently I am giving myself not so much pressure but rather more fun by changing cutoff times, evaluating structure and that sweet panacea of the exhausted business personâ"designation. 5) Families change. Regardless of whether that implies you part ways with a life partner, watch your sister move away, lose an adored feline or just observe the children entering secondary school, there is motivation to go home at work and appreciate the various things around you. The vast majority dont need a month off to understand this generally fundamental of realities, however I did. (See likewise, the melody Cats in the Cradle) In this way, Iam stopping work at 4pm consistently. In outrageous cases, I may work longer. Be that as it may, I start early, I generally work through lunch thus does the group. Theres no explanation we shouldnt knock off somewhat prior and make the most of our families. Work should empower life, not cripple it. Love, Maren

Recruiters Heres How to Choose the Right Job Title
Recruiters Heres How to Choose the Right Job Title Ever seen a job ad searching for an employee with an unusually creative title? Then after reading the ad, you find out that the employer is simply looking to fill a very common position by giving it a unique title to make it sound more appealing? If youâre like most people, you probably asked yourself, âWell, why didnât they just call the position by the name everyone knows?â Most recruiters have seen this many times. An employer will decide that since their company thrives on âoutside-the-boxâ thinking and encourages unique and creative ideas inventing a radical title for a decidedly non-glamorous position will send the outside-the-box thinkers rushing to apply. Unfortunately, employers who do this are not taking something very important into consideration â" unique position titles only make it harder to find candidates who are searching for jobs, as they often never reach their targeted audience. Call it as you see it On Indeed.com, there are currently 3,399 job ads seeking Rock Stars. As annoying as this term has become when used metaphorically, employers need to ask themselves whether this is really the most appropriate choice of titles in order to place their job listing at the top of the list of a prospective employeeâs job search results. While it may result in a brief pause and a few smiles for those perusing the website, most job seekers search job boards using targeted keyword searches based on their skills and job titles. And letâs face it, not even Mick Jagger would search CareerBuilder using the term Rock Star! I am a big advocate of the K.I.S.S. principle â" Keep It Simple, Stupid. When advertising an open position, it is important for employers to put themselves in the shoes of the job seeker. What job title will get their position in front of the most candidates? What titles will the ideal candidates most likely be searching for when they log onto common job boards? These are the titles that the employer will want to focus on in the job ad. Just because your company refers to the Receptionist as a Director of First Impressions, or the Website Designer as a Cyber Ninja, doesnât mean that candidates looking for those positions will search job boards using those titles. In fact, thereâs nothing in either of those titles that a candidate would likely include in his or her keyword search when scouring the internet for prospective jobs. In the end, employers should consider the results before advertising for a Ninja, Guru, Super Hero, Wizard, Evangelist, Maven, Warrior, or any other ridic ulous title. Understanding is key Obviously, for employers who absolutely insist on a unique job title, there are ways to still get their ad in front of the right candidates. One way, for example, is to include several relevant keywords throughout the ad, resulting in the ad appearing in job searches matching the positionâs duties and qualifications, regardless of the actual title. However, consider this â" in a recent survey by Monster UK, 64 percent of job applicants said they would not apply for a job if they didnât understand the title. So aside from the fact that a uniquely titled position is less likely to reach the right candidates, once it does, they are less likely to apply to it. It works both ways For those job seekers reading this, the same principles hold true for resumes and social media profiles. Currently, there are 287 Twitter users who describe themselves as Social Media Freaks in their bios. While it may show enthusiasm, perhaps itâs not the best way to make a first impression on a prospective employer. Granted, one can assume that these people are not seeking employment. However, any recruiter can attest to the number of people who accept job offers they were never even looking for. So why close the door of opportunity? Donât let creativity hinder your search So what is the conclusion to all of this? When advertising for a candidate to fill an open position, use standard terminology. Conduct a search on a few popular job boards for the position youâre looking to fill and see what titles appear the most consistently. Those are the titles that are most likely getting the most traffic, and will therefore yield the best results. Once you have found that perfect candidate, if giving him or her a unique and individualistic job title meets with your company culture and is acceptable to the candidate, then by all means, let your freak flag fly! But when beginning the candidate search process, remember to think like a job seeker, not like a trailblazer. Whats the strangest job title youve come across? Let us know in the comments below!

The Unusual Team-Building Methods of Famous Bosses
The Unusual Team-Building Methods of Famous Bosses For many of us, the phrase âteam buildingâ will conjure up ideas of building straw structures to resemble bridges, thinking up an âinterestingâ fact about ourselves or performing trust falls. While these activities may be traditional team building methods, todayâs workforce are open to a much wider variety of activities which have just as effective results. What does it achieve? The goals of team building activities can be varied, from improving communication amongst colleagues, to increasing cohesion or boosting morale. Activities can be tailored to suit one particular purpose, or may try to encompass all of the above. For example, activities where colleagues must interact with each other in order to achieve a certain goal would help to improve communication and problem-solving skills. However, nowadays, team building days are becoming increasingly centred around colleagues coming together to have some fun. What kind of methods are used in team building? Team building activities can take a wide array of formats, including the weird and the wonderful. This infographic from Colonial Life explores the unusual methods opted for by some of the worldâs most famous bosses. For example, the head of British insurance company Admiral gets employees to participate in a game called âegg rouletteâ, which sees individuals smash an egg onto their head. The idea is that one in six eggs isnât hard boiled, so employees are participating in a game of chance. Admiral arenât alone in their love of unusual team building techniques: Coca Colaâs employees have participated in flash mobbing, those at Facebook can take part in sailing around Boston Harbour and the Food Truck Challenge is a favourite of Yahoo! employees. How does this apply to me? While every business is unlikely to have the same kind of budget as the likes of Facebook, Uber or Yahoo! for team building, there are ways to apply their ethos to your business. For a start, as we can see, team building neednât be stuffy or corporate, in fact most businesses seem to shy away from this method. Instead, many businesses try to disguise team building as socialising or participating in something thatâs so much fun that it doesnât really feel like itâs work-related. It is important to understand what you want to be gained from these activities, thinking about both the business as a whole and the individual. For many businesses, team building is about bringing people together, sometimes particularly allowing for cross-department socialising. In a big company, it can be easy to go weeks or months without talking to someone who sits in the same office, just because they arenât working on the same project as you. Therefore, team building days can be a great way of getting colleagues to regroup and strengthen ties between departments. What other activities could we do? The choice of team building exercises is one best made based on the aims of the activity, but also the personality of the company and its employees. For example, for a young or particularly active workforce, activities such a white water rafting or rock climbing could bring out the best in people. Whereas, others may find that a simple company-wide picnic, or inter-team dining experience is the best way forward. Whatever you choose to do to bring out the best in your employees or to hone new skills, it neednât be dull, as the infographic below shows. About the author: Jessie Avery is an insurance agent and representative of Colonial Life. They regularly provide advice and opportunities for small business owners.

Personal Brands It Dont Mean a Thing - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Personal Brands It Donât Mean a Thing - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Great parties, like great sex, depend on variety. Different styles, attitudes, even intentions: spice it up â" give it that zing. Really great parties, like great sustainable romance, need surprise, along with the two other key elements of happiness: pleasure and meaning. So if your life or your job is no party: you know what to do. How often do you surprise the people around you? How often are you surprised? Do you bring them pleasure? How often do your bring them pleasure: brilliant work, letting them go home while you take the late shift, or cleaning up after the big project goes out? How often do the people around you bring you pleasure? And meaning: what are you doing? Are you just making money? Not good enough to sustain your effort. Youâve got to make meaning; ideally youâre making it with the people you work with. We just celebrated two birthdays with a great party on Saturday night: my boyfriend and his dad share a birth date. They are separated by 21 years and typically 3,000 miles. So Dad bridged the gap and flew into LA with Mom. And, we invited our 35 of our closest friends, who brought 15 strangers who are now friends. I dubbed it the âMeet the Parents Dayâ party. Hereâs whatâs cool. Guests ranged from 20 to 85 years of age. We had a mash up of personal brands. Outgoing, smart, funny, pious, ambitious, lay back, experienced, newbies, literate, and kinetic. We had dueling men of the cloth (actually 5 religions present), attorneys, business owners, professional athletes, students, receptionists, our maintenance man at work, and a guy who raises exotic lizards (who knew?). Twenty countries represented if you include this generation and back one more to ancestors. There isnât a composite that would represent âfriendâ in our lives: not anything that could be combined to become a persona that we could recognize as people we adore. As a marketer, that stings: we like target markets that act alike, think alike, and buy alike. In the house on Saturday, the only thing we all had in common was we were glad to be together. We laughed, ate, sang, chatted, took photos, drank a bit and some of us: a bit too much. We built a cupcake holder in the middle of dinner, filled it and then ate the contents. Our clean-up crew didnât show: so the partiers danced and did dishes to heavy metal music. It was like being in camp, making a show, being players and audience, being chefs and hoppers, eating and then doing KP. Not a thing Life doesnât mean a thing, if you donât get that zing. When was the last time you danced and did dishes? I hope really often. Get outside your personal brand and the tribe you always hang with: so you can see how you mesh, complement, clash, and makes a mess with people who are so not like you. Go out of your way to like them. Find something to enjoy in even the challenging people around you. This is your party. Itâs life and work, friends and family, staying home and traveling, working out and eating too much. You can have it all, if you venture out. Give yourself a way to mix it up, surprise yourself and others, give and get pleasure and always seek to make and find meaning. The birthday boys nearly forgot to open presents. Thatâs how great a party can be. Author: Nance Rosen is the author of Speak Up! Succeed.
